01

Plain-language summary

BoardBoost reads Blackboard content only after the student accepts a prominent disclosure inside the extension. The information is used to provide the student dashboard, completion tracking, announcements, course-card grades, course customization, reminders, and whole-site themes.

The data is stored with chrome.storage.local in that Chrome profile. BoardBoost does not send it to us, an analytics provider, an advertiser, a data broker, or any other third party.

02

Information BoardBoost handles

Blackboard page content

Course names and codes, announcements, calendar due dates, released grades, submission status, course navigation, and unread message counts.

Information you create

Personal tasks, reminders, notes, course aliases, theme preferences, and course cover images that you choose from your computer.

Limited site context

The Blackboard Ultra origin and same-origin links needed to open the correct course pages and keep the dashboard synchronized.

03

How the information is used

  • Build the Today, Planner, Announcements, and Grades views.
  • Match Blackboard calendar deadlines to actual submitted or graded work.
  • Display released course grades on Blackboard course cards when enabled.
  • Apply the student's chosen layout, aliases, local cover images, and site theme.
  • Open the same Blackboard course or item the student selected.
  • Schedule optional notifications for tasks the student created.

BoardBoost does not use data for advertising, profiling, credit or eligibility decisions, unrelated product development, or sale.

04

Permissions

Blackboard Ultra site access

Required to read and restyle Blackboard Ultra pages on the institution site a student is already using.

Storage

Keeps the dashboard index, student-created tasks and notes, consent choice, course customizations, and preferences in the current Chrome profile.

Alarms and notifications

Schedules optional reminders for tasks created by the student and shows the reminder at the selected time.

The extension requests access only on HTTPS pages whose path begins with /ultra/, and its code verifies the page is Blackboard Learn Ultra before activating. The broad hostname pattern is necessary because schools host Blackboard on different institution-owned domains.

05

Sharing and remote code

BoardBoost does not transmit or share Blackboard content or student-created information. It contains no analytics SDK, advertising SDK, tracking pixel, remote executable code, or dynamic code loader. Course cover images are selected from the student's computer and stored locally; the extension does not load custom covers from third-party URLs.

06

Retention and deletion

Information remains in the current Chrome profile until the student clears the extension's storage or uninstalls BoardBoost. Removing BoardBoost through Chrome removes its locally stored Blackboard index, tasks, notes, customizations, preferences, and consent record.

07

Security

BoardBoost uses Manifest V3, a restrictive extension content security policy, same-origin URL validation, output escaping for Blackboard text, locally packaged code, and Chrome's extension storage. It does not request cookie, password, browsing-history, identity, web-request interception, or payment permissions.

Students should not place patient information, passwords, financial information, or other highly sensitive content in personal tasks or notes.

08

Chrome Web Store Limited Use

BoardBoost's use of information received from Chrome and Blackboard is limited to providing and improving its disclosed student-dashboard purpose. The extension complies with the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

09

Changes and contact

If BoardBoost's data practices materially change, the extension will present an updated disclosure and request a new affirmative choice before applying the new practices. The current effective date and policy version will remain visible on this page.

Support contact information is available in the BoardBoost Chrome Web Store listing. Privacy questions can be submitted through the listing's developer support channel.
